A keloid is thick, elevated, & goes beyond its original margins. Although it can develop anywhere there is a skin injury, it typically shows up on earlobes, shoulders, chest, or areas done with poor surgical technique. A keloid is not dangerous to your health, but it can have symptoms & create emotional distress. Prevention or early treatment is critical. Ask your us how to flatten or eliminate a keloid if you don’t like the way it feels or looks.
There is almost no practice in medicine that gives you a 100% guarantee. Surgical procedures to remove skin conditions have a success rate at best at 99%, while other procedures have an average success rate of 90%. This means that skin lesions, such as lipomas, cysts, & nevi, can reappear. If this does happen, the doctor will have to remove it again with another surgery or another procedure apart from surgery. Wound dehiscence is a surgical complication that occurs when the layers of a wound reopen accidentally. This can happen by putting excessive tension on the wound edges, such as failing to support it properly or putting undue force on it post-surgery. A surgeon has a few options to deal with this: such as either leaving it to heal by itself after assessing it, or they can re-cut & sew it again just like how they did so in surgery. Tears or cuts on your skin, and/or tissue, usually need laceration repair. This can be in the form of cleaning, preparing, & closing the wound. Complications of laceration repair can happen & manifest through infection, bleeding, scarring, poor wound closure, & allergic reaction to anesthetic. A hematoma is a pool of mostly clotted blood that forms in an organ or tissue; it is commonly caused by a broken blood vessel damaged by an injury or surgery. Hematomas are common after cosmetic surgeries. If a hematoma is getting too big or painful, a doctor can opt to remove it. This is done by making a small incision & assessing the hematoma, then a suction device or other tools are used to drain the blood in it. Pressure or stitches are used to close the incision, and dressing or bandage can be used to protect it as it heals. This procedure is done on an outpatient basis, meaning you are free to resume your normal life after the procedure.
Some wounds are closed with sutures, either with synthetic or natural materials. Some of them are absorbable by the skin, while others need to be removed once the wound has healed enough. Some suture material might cause swelling & redness, due to the fact they are foreign to the body. This is expected & doesn’t mean there’s an allergy or infection.
